Strengthening networks in Finland

The Finnish participants of Young Innovative Entrepreneurs had a get-together event on January 17th at Tervolatalo in Tervola.

The purpose was to meet, discuss and create stronger networks also regionally.

The meeting was organized together with two other projects; Northern Creative Youth 2 (NoCry2) and Creative Edge. All the participants of the event were from creative field so there was also a chance to expand networks internationally.

Nic Mepham from NoCry2 hosted the event and made everyone feel welcomed. The host of Tervolatalo, Matti Alatalo, also welcomed everyone to Tervola and shared some information of the place.

The highlight of the event was an inspirational panel where young entrepreneurs shared their stories how to succeed in creative industries. The panelists were Miikka Niemi from Flatlight Films, Mikko Manninen from Koivu Interactive, Elina Stoor from iLme innorooms and Marju Matsin from Marju Matsin Design.

The keywords of the panel were ”creativity”, ”networking” and ”social media”. For example Stoor described creativity as puzzle pieces, by fitting together two pieces that you’d normally think won’t fit together you can create something totally new. Niemi reminded that creativity can be found everywhere and it’s something that inspires yourself or others.

There was a division between the panelists when they were contemplating their businesses’ connections to social media. Matsin and Stoor didn’t really see the benefits of social media in their work, Manninen and Niemi on the other hand are strongly connected to different social media channels in their work.

Especially for Creative Edge’s young students of creative field the panel was a great way to get a wide range of knowledge and tips from the people who have made a living out of something they really love to do.

All and all, this kind of informal and relaxed get-together was well received by the YIE’s Finnish participants. It was a great way to build and maintain networks while waiting for the next Matchmaking event this year!
